Ed Koch
Edward Irving Koch, born in 1924, was a notable American politician who served three terms as Mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. Before his mayoral tenure, Koch was a U.S. Congressman from 1969 to 1977, championing liberal causes. His leadership as mayor was marked by efforts to solve the city's fiscal crisis through austerity measures and by initiating significant housing renewal projects. Despite facing criticism for his administration's handling of racial tensions and the AIDS crisis, Koch's direct leadership style left a lasting imprint on the city. Following his political career, Koch was involved in media, legal practice and education, contributing to his multifaceted legacy.
