Edward Hicks

Edward Hicks (1780–1849), born in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, was an American folk painter best known for his series of "Peaceable Kingdom" paintings, which depict harmonious scenes of animals and humans inspired by Quaker beliefs. His work is characterized by its naive style and religious themes. Hicks's paintings are held in collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum. His unique vision and devotional subject matter have made him a notable figure in American folk art.
