Elaine De Kooning
Elaine de Kooning (1918–1989) was an accomplished Abstract Expressionist painter, teacher, and critic, part of the New York School of post-war American artists. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was known for her vibrant portraiture, which included public figures such as John F. Kennedy, and her dynamic and gestural style that energetically captured her subjects. Although often discussed in relation to her husband, Willem de Kooning, Elaine was a formidable artist and intellectual in her own right, contributing significantly to the discourse of art through her writings and teachings, and her paintings remain a vibrant part of American art history.
