Jacob Lawrence
Jacob Lawrence, born in 1917 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and passed away in 2000, was an African American painter known for his portrayal of African American life. Lawrence was part of the Harlem Renaissance and is best known for his "Migration Series," a collection of paintings that depict the Great Migration of African Americans from the rural South to the urban North. His work utilized a Cubist approach to form and a bold, expressive color palette, making profound statements on social issues and narratives of African American history and culture.
