JR
JR, a pseudonymous French artist and photographer whose surname is Jean-René, has gained international acclaim for his large-scale, public photography projects that often address social and political issues. Known for his distinctive technique of exhibiting massive black and white photographic images in public spaces, JR's work challenges conventional viewpoints and engages communities. His notable projects include "Portrait of a Generation" (2006), where he posted portraits of suburban "thugs" in Paris, and "Women Are Heroes" (2008), highlighting the dignity of women living in slums across the world. In 2011, JR received the prestigious TED Prize, which led to his global participatory art project, "Inside Out." His work not only transforms urban landscapes but also stimulates discussions on topics like identity, freedom, and equality.
