Judith Jamison
Judith Jamison, an American dancer and choreographer, is celebrated for her long association with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, both as a principal dancer and as its Artistic Director. Jamison's commanding presence and elegant style were epitomized in Ailey's iconic work "Cry," a piece dedicated to "all black women everywhere." After Ailey's death, she took over as the company's Artistic Director, nurturing it into one of the most successful dance companies. Her contributions to dance have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Kennedy Center Honors.
