Leonetto Cappiello
Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942) was an Italian and French poster artist and painter, often credited as the 'father of modern advertising' because of his innovative approach to poster design. Born in Livorno, Italy, he moved to Paris in 1898, where he began his career as a caricaturist. However, it was his distinct poster art that gained him widespread recognition. Cappiello revolutionized advertising design by creating vivid, eye-catching posters with bold figures that popped from black backgrounds, ensuring immediate recognition and capturing the essence of the product being advertised. Throughout his career, he produced over 1,000 advertising posters, many of which have become iconic and are still celebrated today for their innovative and impactful designs.
