Letitia James
Letitia James, born on October 18, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American lawyer, activist, and politician serving as the Attorney General of New York since 2019. She is the first African-American woman to hold statewide office in New York and the first woman to be elected Attorney General in the state. Before her tenure as Attorney General, James served as the New York City Public Advocate from 2014 to 2018 and as a member of the New York City Council from 2004 to 2013, representing Brooklyn's 35th district. Known for her progressive stances, James has focused on issues such as consumer protection, workers' rights, and governmental transparency.
