Marion Cuyjet
Marion Cuyjet (1917-1987) was an influential African American dance teacher and founder of the Judimar School of Dance in Philadelphia. Cuyjet is celebrated for her commitment to providing dance education to African American students during a time of racial segregation. Her school trained several renowned dancers, including Judith Jamison, who later became the artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Cuyjet's dedication to dance and her pioneering role in breaking racial barriers have made her a significant figure in the history of American dance.
