Remedios Varo
Remedios Varo (1908–1963) was a Spanish surrealist painter known for her dreamlike and enigmatic compositions that explore mysticism, alchemy, and the subconscious. Born in Anglés, Spain, Varo moved to Mexico during World War II, where she became a central figure in the country's surrealist movement alongside Leonora Carrington and Kati Horna. Varo's works often depict otherworldly landscapes populated by elongated, ethereal women engaged in alchemical activities or in pursuit of transcendental knowledge. Drawing inspiration from medieval art, science, and her own personal mythologies, Varo crafted a unique visual language that combined technical precision with fantastical imagery.
