Rina Banerjee, born in Kolkata, India, in 1963, is a contemporary artist known for her intricate sculptures and installations. Banerjee moved to London and later to New York, where she studied at Yale University. Her work explores themes of globalization, migration and identity, often using diverse materials like feathers, shells, and textiles. Banerjee's pieces are characterized by their vibrant, fantastical elements and cultural references. Her notable works include "Viola, from New Orleans-ah" and "Take me, take me, take me...to the Palace of love." Banerjee's art has been exhibited in major institutions like the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Venice Biennale. She continues to be a significant figure in contemporary art.
