Robert Motherwell
Robert Motherwell (1915–1991), born in Aberdeen, Washington, was an American painter and a key figure in the Abstract Expressionist movement. He is best known for his "Elegy to the Spanish Republic" series, which consists of powerful, abstract works expressing political and emotional themes. Motherwell's art is held in major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London. His intellectual approach to art and his writings have significantly influenced contemporary abstract painting.
