Sam Altman
Cofounder and CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman is an investor and entrepreneur. After briefly studying computer science at Stanford University, Altman dropped out to found the location-based social networking service, Loopt, with seed funding from startup accelerator Y Combinator. He later became president of Y Combinator and co-founded venture capital firm Hydrazine Capital with his brother, Jack Altman. Sam Altman co-founded OpenAI as a non-profit with Reid Hoffman, Jessica Livingston, Elon Musk, Ilya Sutskever, Peter Thiel and several other backers in 2015. Today, OpenAI is the for-profit artificial intelligence research company behind the large language models (LLMs) GPT-3, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, as well as ChatGPT and DALL-E–technologies poised to change the future of work. Altman has famously said that while generative artificial intelligence might replace jobs and fund UBI, it will also generate new jobs. Sam Altman’s net worth was estimated at $350 million in 2023.
