Cofounder and CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman is an investor and entrepreneur. After briefly studying computer science at Stanford University, Altman dropped out to found the location-based social networking service, Loopt, with seed funding from startup accelerator Y Combinator. He later became president of Y Combinator and co-founded venture capital firm Hydrazine Capital with his brother, Jack Altman. Sam Altman co-founded OpenAI as a non-profit with Reid Hoffman, Jessica Livingston, Elon Musk, Ilya Sutskever, Peter Thiel and several other backers in 2015. Today, OpenAI is the for-profit artificial intelligence research company behind the large language models (LLMs) GPT-3, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, as well as ChatGPT and DALL-E–technologies poised to change the future of work.
