Sam Durant, born in Seattle, Washington in 1961, is a contemporary American artist known for his multimedia works that explore social, political and cultural issues. He studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and California Institute of the Arts. Durant's early career focused on installations, sculptures, and public art projects that engage with historical narratives and activism. Notable works include "Scaffold" and "Proposal for White and Indian Dead Monument Transpositions, Washington D.C." His art is featured in collections such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Durant continues to provoke thought and dialogue through his socially engaged practice.
