Sun Ra
Sun Ra, born Herman Poole Blount, was an innovative jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, and poet known for his "cosmic" philosophy of music and life. A pioneer in afrofuturism, Sun Ra's music ranged from keyboard solos to big bands of over 30 musicians, and his work was characterized by a unique blend of jazz, space music, and Egyptian iconography. His influential music and theatrical performances challenged traditional jazz conventions and inspired a new generation of musicians.
