William Merritt Chase
William Merritt Chase (1849–1916), born in Williamsburg, Indiana, was an American painter and a leading figure in the American Impressionist movement. He is known for his vibrant landscapes, portraits and still lifes, as well as his role as a teacher at the Art Students League in New York. Chase's works are part of collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Brooklyn Museum. His influence on American art and his dedication to teaching have made him a significant figure in the history of American painting.
