The digital, blockchain-supported art objects exchanged on peer-to-peer platforms have stunned the conservative art world into rapid adaptation, but Schachter was learning the contours of Nifty Gateway months before everyone else. “People complain about fake news and lack of truthfulness, but the art world is the only place where they embrace the lies and they have their own brand of hypocrisy,” Schachter told Observer. “That’s what I rail against. I’m complicit, I’ve done everything, but I’m always transparent. I would lose my credibility and my audience in one article if I did something that was disingenuous in any way.”
