Costume Institute

The Costume Institute is located at 1000 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY. Established in 1946, the museum is dedicated to the study, preservation and exhibition of fashion. It’s collection includes over 33,000 costumes and accessories spanning five centuries, with notable pieces by designers like Coco Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Yves Saint Laurent. The Costume Institute’s annual Met Gala is a fundraising event to showcase major exhibitions, which have included Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination and China: Through the Looking Glass. The Costume Institute also offers educational programs, lectures and publications promoting a deeper understanding of fashion history and design. Read more about Museums.
