Future Fair

Observer’s 2026 May Art Fair Calendar (Updated)

Here's everything happening on the art fair circuit this May.
By Christa Terry
A bright, contemporary gallery space with large windows overlooking a cityscape, featuring an installation by Swivel at Independent 2025. Sculptural works resembling oversized plastic grocery bags filled with produce, chips, and receipts are suspended on the wall and placed on the floor. Wall-mounted vertical arrangements of snack bags are secured with bold-colored straps. The installation humorously critiques consumer culture and everyday consumption through hyperreal, soft-sculpture renditions of common grocery items. The space is minimal, allowing the playful and detailed works to stand out.

Framed paintings fill the wall behind her, including a large portrait of Frida Kahlo, a vibrant abstract, and a playful depiction of Black figures with balloons. A Brillo soap pad box and art books stacked on the coffee table and floor add to the eclectic, art-filled ambiance. The woman wears a “Rock Girl” t-shirt and jeans, smiling confidently at the camera.
