Swizz Beatz Will Open a Soho House-Type Club for Artists in the Meatpacking District

For years now, hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz has been inviting himself to the party that is the art world—building a collection, DJing events at Art Basel Miami Beach, palling around with Tony Shafrazi, curating sections of art fairs, making his own matte black paintings, enrolling in Harvard Business School to master the art market, evangelizing Basquiat and Haring to Jay Z and Lil Wayne, etc.

Art World Abstracts: Galapagos Art Space Goes to Detroit, And More!

Galapagos, one of the original Williamsburg experimental art spaces, will pack up shop and head to Detroit, where it can inhabit a sweeping space for cheap and nurture a nascent scene. “A white-hot real estate market is burning through the affordable cultural habitat,” director Robert Elmes told The Times. “And it’s no longer a crisis, it’s a conclusion.” In other Williamsburg in Dead news, Scarlett Johansson and Jonah Hill performed at Vice's 20th Anniversary party.
