Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum (The Getty) is located at 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles, CA. The institution was founded in 1954 by oil tycoon J. Paul Getty. The museum operates two campuses: the Getty Center in Brentwood, opened in 1997 and designed by architect Richard Meier and the Getty Villa in Malibu, which reopened in 2006 after extensive renovations. The Getty Center houses European paintings, drawings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts and decorative arts, with notable works by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt and Titian. The Getty Villa focuses on ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan art, featuring artifacts like the Lansdowne Heracles and the Getty Bronze. The museum also offers temporary exhibitions, educational programs and research initiatives, contributing significantly to the study and appreciation of art and culture. Read more about Museums.
