‘The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’ 1×02 Latecap: An Unspoken Villain

In the trailers for American Crime Story, it promised a big payoff: “You saw the Bronco chase. Now see what it was like in the Bronco.” This was this episode. So it was somewhat surprising to find that the best moments of the episode that focused on O.J. Simpson’s famous low-speed chase with the L.A.P.D. weren’t the ones that took place in the car, but the ensuing frenzy-- of the media, the police, and the residents of Los Angeles-- that were awakened by the celebrity’s run from authorities.

‘The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’ Pilot Recap: ‘A Belushi Situation’

In the month or so that I’ve had to watch the six screener episodes released by FX for Ryan Murphy’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (or TPvOJS:ACS for those of you super-fans of my unwieldy American Horror Story acronyms), I’ve gone from barely remembering anything about the case to being an armchair super-sleuth. I’ve read Toobin’s book on which the show is based (for which Toobin acts as both a consultant as well as *spoiler alert* an eventual character), I’ve read Dominick Dunne’s Vanity Fair dispatches from the trial (*spoiler alert* he also shows up as a character in the series), I’ve read Mark Fuhrman’s Murder in Brentwood, former Manson prosecutor-turned true crime novelist Vincent Bugliosi’s Outrage: The Five Reasons Why O.J. Simpson Got Away with Murder and I(f) I Did It: Confessions of the Killer from the incarcerated celebrity himself. I watched news footage and Oprah specials with all the major players from the case, journeyed to Los Angeles to profile Kato Kaelin and accosted Sarah Paulson in the bathroom of the Sunset Towers by screaming at her “I LOVE YOU AS MARCIA!” (In true Clark-like fashion, Ms. Paulson merely scowled and said she hadn’t even the series yet.) Awkwardly, when I sat down for the rest of my meal, Paulson was at the table right next to me, having dinner with--who else?--Ryan Murphy.

20 Years After O.J. Simpson Case, Kato Kaelin Is Ready for His Next 15 Minutes

I’m sitting in a small, dark screening room on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills. To my left sits David Nussbaum, senior vice president of sales for Hologram USA, the nation’s No. 1—and, it happens, only—distributor of hologram technology. Their CEO is Greek billionaire Coca-Cola heir and Hollywood bad boy Alki David. Directly in front of me are a parade of 3D-rendered performers: Tupac Shakur, Jimmy Kimmel, a T-Rex masquerading as Bernie Sanders and an elephant.
