National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery is located at 8th St NW & G St NW, Washington, D.C. It is part of the Smithsonian Institution and was established in 1962. Housed in the historic Old Patent Office Building, a National Historic Landmark, the museum displays portraits of notable American figures from various fields, including politics, arts and sciences. The collection includes iconic works such as Gilbert Stuart‘s portrait of George Washington, Kehinde Wiley‘s portrait of Barack Obama and Amy Sherald‘s portrait of Michelle Obama. The museum has hosted notable exhibitions like “America’s Presidents,” showcasing portraits of all U.S. presidents and “Votes for Women: A Portrait of Persistence,” highlighting the history of women’s suffrage in America.
