New York City Center

New York City Center, located at 131 West 55th Street, New York City, opened in 1943. Originally built in 1923 as the Mecca Temple for the Shriners, it was transformed into a performing arts center by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia. Known for its distinctive Moorish Revival architecture, City Center hosts a wide variety of performances, including theater, dance, and concerts. It is renowned for its annual Encores! series, which revives rarely seen American musicals. New York City Center also serves as the home for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and numerous other prominent arts organizations. Its commitment to accessibility and excellence makes it a vital part of New York’s cultural landscape. Read more about Theater, Dance and Music.
