PPOW Gallery
PPOW Gallery was founded in 1983 by Penny Pilkington and Wendy Olsoff in New York City’s East Village. The gallery was created to provide a platform for socially and politically engaged art. It has been instrumental in launching the careers of artists like David Wojnarowicz, Martin Wong, and Carrie Mae Weems. In 2002, PPOW moved to Chelsea, where it continued to influence the art scene with its commitment to critical and challenging works. The gallery’s focus on underrepresented artists and provocative themes has inspired other galleries to adopt more inclusive and daring programming. Read more about Galleries.
