Smack Mellon

Smack Mellon was founded in 1995 by Kathleen Gilrain and Carole Ashley in Brooklyn, New York. The gallery and non-profit organization were created to support emerging artists through exhibitions, studio space, and residencies. Artists like Sanford Biggers and Teresita Fernández have been associated with Smack Mellon. Located in the DUMBO neighborhood, the gallery has contributed to the area’s cultural development, inspiring other organizations to support artists through similar initiatives.
