Smithsonian American Art Museum
The Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) is located at G Street Northwest &, 8th St NW, Washington, D.C. SAAM is part of the Smithsonian Institution and was established in 1829, making it one of the oldest art museums in the United States. The museum is housed in the historic Old Patent Office Building, which it shares with the National Portrait Gallery and houses a collection that includes over 40,000 artworks representing American art from the colonial period to the present. Notable pieces include works by John Singleton Copley, Georgia O’Keeffe and Nam June Paik. The museum is known for its comprehensive representation of American art movements, including the Hudson River School, American Impressionism and contemporary art.
